Head Start is a comprehensive child development program for preschool children and their families. Priority consideration for acceptance is given to children of low income families. Children attend Head Start four days a week, Monday through Thursday, for 3.5 hours. Among the services provided are health services, meals and snacks, psychological services, transportation, on-site speech therapy and a variety of parent activities. Services also are provided in Spanish.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays
Area Served: The program serves children in the Geneva, Canandaigua and Phelps-Clifton Springs school districts. To qualify, children must be aged three or four, be from low-income families or have special needs. Priority is given to four-year-olds.
Fees Charged: There is no cost for the service, which does maintain a waiting list.
